H. Victor Griffus, 77, of Hanceville, Ala. died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his residence.  He was born September 8, 1933 in Marion County, Ala. and grew up in Hayti, Missouri and Vina, Ala.  He was a graduate of Tremont High School.  He later moved to Winthrop Harbor, Ill., where he met Delora Grissom, his wife of over 50 years.  He became a proud employee of Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago.  Vic was a lifelong member of the Church of God and enjoyed studying the Bible, teaching Sunday School and leading the church choir.  He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and owner of English pointers and quarter horses.  A beautiful Appaloosa colt was born just prior to Vic’s passing.  Vic was a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach and active in the Lion’s Club as well as a volunteer for Baptist Disaster Relief.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, 2011 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Ala. with Pastor Brian Keef officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Miss.

He is survived by his wife, Delora Faye Griffus; two sons, Victor Michael Griffus and Mark Alan Griffus.  He was the devoted son of William Victor and Dessie Jane; beloved brother of Delona, Bryce, Wesley, Mickey, Vickey, Myrtle, Jane and Marlon. Vic adored and was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews for whom he wishes health, wealth and happiness with love.

The family requests that donations be made to Omega Hospice and wishes to extend its appreciation for their dedicated and compassionate care.
