    Trio earn All-State Honorable Mentions

Tharptown’s Jacob Parker, left, Red Bay’s Hannah Sharp, center, and Russellville’s Travis Daniels, right, all earned Honorable Mentions for the 2010-11 All-State Basketball Team. | Scot Beard/FCT

The Alabama Sports Writers Association recognized three area basketball players for outstanding performances this season with spots on the 2010-11 All-State Team.

In Class 1A boys, Tharptown’s Jacob Parker earned an Honorable Mention for helping guide the Wildcats to the Northwest Regional Tournament for the first time in school history. Parker, who has more than 1,000 points and 400 rebounds during his career, averaged 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Parker also made 62 of the 3-pointers he attempted, recorded 46 steals, 11 blocks and hit 72 percent of his free throws.

In Class 2A girls, Red Bay’s Hannah Sharp also earned an Honorable Mention for helping the Lady Tigers reach the finals of the Northwest Regional Tournament.

Sharp — a junior who earned a roster spot for the North-South All-Star game this summer — averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. She also made 41 of the 3-pointers she attempted and was successful on 77 percent of her free throws.

In Class 5A boys, Russellville’s Travis Daniels also earned an Honorable Mention for helping the Golden Tigers reach the finals of the Northwest Regional Tournament.

In his only season at Russellville Daniels — a University of Tennessee at Martin signee — averaged a double-double as the Golden Tigers returned to Wallace State for the first time since 2008.
