PHIL CAMPBELL — The last time the Phil Campbell varsity boys played Haleyville they suffered a 14-point defeat.

The Bobcats got a little revenge Monday during senior night by stunning the Class 4A Lions 54-51 in overtime.

“It’s good to let the seniors go out with a win,” said Phil Campbell coach Will Copeland.

The Bobcats took control early, building a 10-point lead in the first quarter, but Haleyville fought back and cut the deficit to 25-20 by halftime.

The Lions opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the game. Phil Campbell never allowed Haleyville to build an advantage of more than four points.

Phil Campbell’s Jordan Benford hit a pair of free throws late in the fourth quarter to give the Bobcats a 47-45 lead, but Haleyville was able to tie the game and send it to overtime.

The Lions scored first in extra time, but Benford scored and drew a foul. He converted the free throw giving the Bobcats a 50-49 advantage.

Cameron Harris hit a pair of free throws a moment later to extend the lead for good.

Colton Vickery led the Bobcats with 14 points while Benford scored 11 points. Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Skeeter Benford (7), Ben Stancil (7), Harris (5), Chase Swinney (5), Kody Ortiz (3) and D.J. Hall (2).
