Russellville man charged with murder

A local man has been arrested and charged with murder following the shooting death of his girlfriend on Sunday night.
Jason Dewayne Green, 35, 325 Oak Hills Drive, Russellville, was officially charged with murder Tuesday afternoon, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.
According to Oliver, officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Russellville Police Department responded to a call that someone had been shot at 325 Oak Hills Drive about 10 p.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the female victim, 27-year-old Shay Nicole Ledlow, had suffered a gunshot wound to her head, Oliver said.
Investigators said Green placed a 911 call reporting that Ledlow had committed suicide.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Elzie Malone.
Green, described as Ledlow’s live-in boyfriend, was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Oliver said Green was held for investigative purposes pending results of the preliminary autopsy report.
“Based on preliminary autopsies and other factors, we decided Tuesday to charge Mr. Green with murder,” Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.
According to Oliver and Rushing, the investigation is still ongoing and in its early stages.
Oliver said investigators with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation have been called to assist with the case.
Green is in custody at the Franklin County Jail without bail.
A bond hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
