Belgreen sweeps Vina

BELGREEN — Belgreen gave the homecoming fans a treat last week with a sweep of Vina as both the boys and girls teams improved to 3-0 in area play.

Belgreen 62, Vina 31

The boys team jumped out to an early lead, holding the Red Devils to two points in the first quarter on its way to a 62-31 victory.

The Bulldogs had 11 players score, led by Jake Tittle with 11 points while Chaney Simmons added nine points and Samuel Melecio scored eight points.

Also scoring for Belgreen were Tyler Medina (7), Will Hester (7), Austin Oldag (5), Brian Vance (4), Cody Glasgow (4), Josh DeVaney (3), Brock Hester (2) and Caleb Mitchell (1).

Vina found its scoring rhythm in the second quarter, but it was too late to get back into the game.

Adam Pharr led the Red Devils with 10 points while Patrick White scored nine points.

Also scoring for Vina were Nick Schmittou (6), Kyler Childers (2), Brandon McKee (2), Andrew Hester (1) and Nicky Miller (1).

Belgreen 47, Vina 25

The Lady Red Devils hung with Belgreen through the first quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the second quarter on its way to a 47-25 win.

Belgreen led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Vina 21-0 in the second quarter.

Katelin Barber led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points while Kristi O’Dell scored nine points.

Also scoring for Belgreen were Bridget Thompson (5), Erica Smith (5), Alivia Holcomb (5), Lydia DeVaney (3), Sara McMahan (3), Lauren Oliver (2) and Emily Davidson (1).

Claudia Townsend was the leading scorer for Vina with 12 points while Miranda Howard added six points.

Also scoring for the Lady Red Devils were Fallyn Shotts (2), Andria Parrish (2), Heather Thorn (2) and Amanda Patterson (1).

East Franklin 32, Tharptown 27

The East Franklin girls basketball team picked up a 32-27 win against cross-county rival Tharptown Monday night thanks to a 15-point effort by Taylor Pace.

Madison Hardy added nine points for the Lady Rebels while Tori Pace scored four points. Also scoring for East Franklin were Courtney Baker (3) and Ashlyn Gravitt (1).

Brooke Daniel led the Lady Wildcats with nine points while Danielle Creasy added five points.

Also scoring for Tharptown were Haley Malone (4), Bailey Phillips (4), Kathy Alfaro (3) and Savannah Robinson (2).

Tharptown 55, East Franklin 38

Blake Gray and Max Nalen both reached double-digit scoring to help lead the Wildcats past East Franklin. Gray scored a game-high 20 points while Nalen scored 13 points.

Also scoring for Tharptown were Mike Rice (6), Matthew Bragwell (6), Drake Lawson (5), Brady Petree (3) and Nathan Chaney (2).

Eric Odell led the Rebels with 10 points while Blake Whitten and Luke Baker scored nine points each. Also scoring for East Franklin were Hayden Bell (6), Skyler Tackett (2) and Austin McAfee (2).
