Red Bay hosting Wildcats

RED BAY — In the first week of the season Red Bay seized control of the game early and did not let up. Last week the Tigers fell behind early and could not rally.

This week Colbert Heights comes to town.

The Tigers met the Wildcats the last two seasons and lost both meetings. This year the game will be even more important as the squads are now region foes.

Colbert Heights got an early lead in the race for a playoff spot with a win against Phil Campbell last week. Red Bay lost ground with a loss at Lexington.

The Tigers will have to play better this week than they did last week to earn the victory.

A couple of Red Bay turnovers led to quick points for Lexington, who built a 26-7 lead at halftime. Colbert Heights took advantage of a pair of Phil Campbell miscues to build a 14-0 lead in the second half — those points proved to be the difference in the game.

The Red Bay defense, which was a concern heading into the season, appears to be playing well. It limited Lexington to only five first downs and 160 yards of total offense.

If the defenders keep playing well and Red Bay avoids poor play on offense and special teams, the Tigers should have a great shot of winning this game and getting back in the race for the region title.
