Man charged with elder abuse

A Russellville man is in jail after being accused of abusing an elder.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said Jeremy Wayne Tucker, 34, 262 Westside Apartments, Russellville, was taken into custody early Thursday and charged with elder abuse.

Authorities said Franklin County DHR notified law enforcement and an investigation was opened to decide charges in the case.

Russellville police investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said Tucker served as the victim’s primary caregiver because of the victims numerous health issues.

Hargett said upon investigating the case, reports show the victim had his controlled substance medication come up missing on numerous occasions and was also left unattended for lengthy amounts of time.

Lowery said after a lengthy interview with the suspect, it was decided that there was enough evidence in the case to charge Tucker with elder abuse.

Hargett said Tucker could possibly face additional charges once the September session of the Franklin County grand jury convenes.

Elder abuse is considered a Class C felony and, if convicted, Tucker could face one to ten years in prison.

Tucker is currently being held at the Franklin County jail on bond.
