Woman arrested on drug, gun charges

RED BAY – A Mississippi woman is in jail after police confiscated a handgun and drugs from her vehicle at the Piggly Wiggly in Red Bay late Tuesday, authorities said.

Red Bay Police Chief Jana Jackson said Samantha Regina Dabbs, 22, of Ivie Apartments in Mantachie, Miss., is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Jackson said Red Bay Police received information that Dabbs was in the area.

“One of our officers had already issued a warrant to make the arrest for prior offenses,” Jackson said.

“After an extensive search of her (Dabbs) vehicle, the officer found a loaded 22-handgun beside the driver’s side seat, a bottle containing what appeared to be methamphetamine, pills and a syringe.”

Jackson said Dabbs was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and taken to the Red Bay City Jail.

Dabbs has since been transferred to the Franklin County Jail where her bond was set.
