Archives looking for more ‘duck’ adopters

Volunteers at the Franklin County Archives and Research Center have found a fun and creative way to raise money for the center.

The group has become the only organization in Franklin County to partner with the 6th Annual Lucky Duck Derby, which will be part of the 32nd Annual Helen Keller Festival next month in Tuscumbia.

The derby benefits local non-profit organizations.

Rubber ducks can be adopted at the archives center.

Each duck costs $5 or you can adopt a flock, which is $25 for five ducks plus one free.

Each duck will have a number on it.

On Sunday, June 27, the ducks will be released into the water at Spring Park in Tuscumbia at 3 p.m. Area businesses have donated prizes to be given out to the winners.

Ducks ranging from the first to cross the line to the 27th will win prizes.

There will even be prizes awarded to the last duck to finish the derby.

Prizes range from new vehicles from Jim Bishop Chevrolet and Toyota to free gas cards and savings bonds, dinners, furniture, eye exams and many other items.

A portion of all the ducks adopted through the archives will benefit the center.

“This is a good project that could really benefit the archives,” said director Chris Ozbirn.

All adoptions at the archives must be made by 4 p.m. on June 15.
