Russellville duo playing for state All-Stars
By Staff
Many of the best basketball players from Alabama and Mississippi will converge on Pelham Friday for the 20th Annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
Included in those players are a pair of seniors from Russellville.
Terence Smith and Erin Reynolds will represent Russellville for the final time.
Reynolds, who averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals, will play at 5 p.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex.
Smith, who averaged 19.4 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, will play following the completion of the girls game.
The series has been fairly close throughout its history.
Alabama holds a 10-9 lead in the series on the boys side.
The average margin of victory is 12.4 points, but that is only because a handful of games were blowouts.
A total of 11 of the games were decided by eight points or less, with seven of those decided by five points or less.
Alabama's biggest win was the first game, a 103-62 victory in 1991, while Mississippi's biggest win was a 98-67 win in 2002.
The girls side also has been close. The average margin of victory is 12.3 points and Alabama holds an 11-8 lead on the girls side.
Alabama's biggest win was a 36-point victory in 2004 and Mississippi picked up its largest margin of victory in 2005 with a 101-83 win.
