Red Devils cruise past Tremont

By Staff
VINA – Vina used a strong pitching performance from Brent Townsend and a three-run homer from Channing Haithcock to knock off Tremont 10-0 and improve to 3-3 overall.
Townsend pitched a complete game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. He allowed two hits, recorded five strikeouts and walked one.
The Red Devils took control early when Townsend drew a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Morgan McCarley ground out.
Nick Schmittou followed with a double to score Townsend. Schmittou scored on a single by Adam Pharr.
Clay Pierce singled to move Pharr to third and Haithcock's home run cleared the bases and left the Red Devils with a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Vina added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Schmittou was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Haithcock and Keith Hester were also 2-for-3 with Hester recording a two RBI single.
Townsend, McCarley, Pharr and Ethan Pharr had one hit and one RBI each.
