    Joseph "Joe" McCain

    Joseph "Joe" McCain, 81, of Russellville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at his residence.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6 at Spry Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Tharptown Cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Doris McCain; brothers, Henry McCain, Travis McCain; sister, Marie.
    He is survived by his wife, Ann McCain; daughters, Mellione Kincaide, Penny Gillett; grandchildren, Rebecca Kincaide, Lucas Kincaide, Emily Kincaide, Amanda Gillett and Mathew Gillett; sister, Ruth Peterson, of Ark.; brother, Bill McCain, of Ariz.
    Joe McCain will be greatly missed by all.
    Thomas E. Swale, Sr.
    December 29, 2009
    Thomas E. Swale, Sr., 66, of Red Bay passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born April 21, 1943 in Nebraska and was a truck driver for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
    A memorial service was held Dec. 31, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark McCraney officiating.
    He is survived by one daughter, Michelle Swale, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Christopher John-Michael Swale, of Red Bay; three grandchildren, Damon Weeks, Tristan Pacheco and Tyler Pacheco; and four sisters.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Lynn Swale.
    Virginia Jeanette Wingo Gilliland
    December 31, 2009
    Virginia Jeanette Wingo Gilliland, 71, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at NMMC.
    She was born Dec. 4, 1938 in Red Bay to Lester and Lenoia Anderson Wingo. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her sister, Mildred and her grandchildren, whom she loved a lot. She loved taking care of her little dog, playing Skip-Bo and working word puzzle books.
    Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 3, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Jason Patterson officiating. Burial was in Bexar Cemetery.
    She is survived by five daughters, Gail Patterson and husband, Donnie, and Patricia Jackson and husband, Tommy, all of Vina, Teresa Bridges and husband, Wayne, Brenda Jackson (Lee Gann) and Lesley Davis and husband, Phillip, all of Hamilton; step-mother, Juanita Wingo Baker; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Mitchell Wingo; four sisters, Elaine Nichols and husband, Johnny, Dorothy Waddle, Mildred Ann Gilliland and husband, Mack, and Judy Jackson and husband, Jr.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Bill" Gilliland; her parents; one brother, Harold Wingo; and a grandson, Derek Patterson.
    Pallbearers will be Jason Patterson, Ross Patterson, Chad Gann, Jamie Purser, Jeremy Rogers, Marty Gilliland and Jeremy Humphres.
    Girlene Massey Miller
    January 3, 2010
    Girlene Massey Miller, 62, of Vina, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 at NMMC. She was born April 25, 1947 in Vina to Romey and Flossie Massey. She lived in Vina for all of her life and worked at World Pet in Red Bay. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marshall Emerson and Bro. James Gray officiating. Burial was in Old Burleson Cemetery.
    She is survived by five children, Regina Childers, of Tupelo, Miss. Dawn Wooten and husband, Steven, of Dennis, Miss., Joan Miller (Jerome Pounders), of Fairview/Banner community, Sabrina Miller, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Brandon Miller, of Hackleburg; one brother, Robert Massey, of Red Bay; six grandchildren, Chase Childers and Channing Childers, of Vina, Chad Pounders and Lawson Pounders, of Fairview/Banner community, and Shiann and Dakota Wooten, of Dennis, Miss.; and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Miller; her parents; two brothers, Larry Massey and Bob Massey.
    Pallbearers were Steven Wooten, Jerome Pounders, Austin Young, John Ayers, Corey Massey and Chad Pounders. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and nephews.
    Quana Shea Johnson

    Quana Shea Johnson, 24, of Russellville, Ala. passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at her residence.
    Quana Shea Johnson lived all of her life in Russellville, Ala. and went to the Baptist church.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 2, at Pinkard Funeral Home. Burial was in Blue Springs Cemetery.
    She is survived by her husband, Shane Johnson, of Danville, Ala.; mother, Judy Baker, of Phil Campbell, Ala.; children, Braxton Stuart and Adriana Johnson, of Russellville, Ala.; sisters, Ginger Mojica, of Phil Campbell, Ala., Annette Watson, of Florence, Ala.; brothers, Roger A. Malone, Ronald G. Malone, PA, Jeremiah Malone, of Phil Campbell, Ala.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Baker.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Malone; grandparents, Pearl and Grady Malone.

    Leroy McCollister, 79, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at ECM Hospital.
    Mr. McCollister was a lifelong resident of Colbert County, Ala., and a member of Littleville Church of Christ. He was retired from Reynolds Metals as a machinist.
    Funeral services were held Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Jerald Pennington officiating. Burial was in Colbert Memorial Gardens. He was survived by his wife, Betty Hyde McCollister, of Russellville; daughter, Teri Osborne and husband, Steve, of Forsyth, Ga.; son, Tom McCollister and wife, Nina, of Tuscumbia, Ala.; brother, Joe Wayne McCollister, of Florence, Ala.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Annie Mae McCollister.
    Carl S. Matthews

    Carl S. Matthews, 75, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010.
    He was a native of Franklin County but lived 32 years in Illinois. He was a member and Deacon at Cornerstone Church.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Carolyn Baker and Rick Newell officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memory Gardens.
    He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Annie Matthews and son Rickie Carl Matthews.
    He is survived by wife, Mary Jane Matthews; daughters, Stella Ann McMahan and husband, Neal, of Russellville; Mary Carol Murphy and husband Leslie, of Central, Ala.; Rebecca Frielinger, of St. Cloud, Minn.; sisters, Rose Marie Todd, of Sheffield; Annie Ruth Quillen and husband, Raymond, of Columbus, Ind.; brother, Roy "Buddy" Matthews and wife, Ellen, of N.C.; and six grandchildren.
    Kathy D. Fretwell

    Kathy D. Fretwell, 56, of Phil Campbell, Ala., passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at Russellville Hospital.
    She was born in Iuka, Miss., on July 21, 1953, to Marshall and Claudine Harrel Scott.
    The visitation was Thursday, Dec. 31 at Akins Funeral Home prior to the funeral service in the chapel with Bro. Billy Quinn officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memory Gardens.
    Pallbearers were Willard Mayfield, Sr., Ray Fretwell, Ronald Fretwell, Benny Fretwell, Bobby Wayne Scott, and Ronald Sherril.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Claudine Scott; nephew, Patrick Scott, and great nephew, Mason Scott.
    She is survived by husband, Charles Fretwell; daughter, Jennye Mayfield and husband, Willard; brother, Dale Scott and wife, Evelyn; grandchildren, Justin Mayfield and Ashley Mayfield; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    She was a dedicated wife, mother and "grand" that will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. She was a member of Littleville Eastern Stars.
    Roy B. Davis
    January 4, 2009
    Roy Blanton Davis, 86, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Russellville Hospital.
    He lived all his life in Franklin County and was a founding member of the Waco Church of Christ serving as elder for many years. His active service in the Army during World War II included the European African Middle Eastern Campaign. He retired from TVA.
    The funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville with Larry Prince, Charles Frederick and Jack Frederick officiating.
    Military honors will be in the chapel with burial to follow in Franklin Memory Gardens. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Survivors include wife, Lillie Mae Britnell Davis, Russellville; son, Gary Davis and wife, Carolyn, Houston, Ala.; daughters, Jennie Prince and husband, Larry, Marqueta Prince and husband, Ronald, Teresa Pounders and husband, Steve, all of Russellville; sisters, Della Ruth McCarley, Spruce Pine, Dorothy Britnell, Russellville; grandchildren, Michael Davis, Phillip Prince, Hunter Prince, Lynn Ponder, Erin Lindsey, Tanner Prince, Brad Pounders, Brian Pounders and Brittany Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Mercedes Davis, Morgan Davis, Isaac Prince, Amelia Prince, Shelby Ponder, Kaci Ponder, Reagan Lindsey, Davis Lindsey, Lily Blackburn, Leah Blackburn; great-great grandchild, Tristen Arthur; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
    Pallbearers will be all grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, William Claude and Detta Rose Davis; brothers, Granville, Wilson and Jack Davis; sisters, Ruby Chadderdon and Lucille McNatt.
    He was a very humble person who had enough love to give to everyone who needed him.
