Tigers hit road in search of playoff berth

By Staff

RED BAY – .Last year Red Bay entered its game against Tanner with a 4-0 record in region play. This year the Tigers are also 4-0 in region play as they prepare to face the Rattlers.
Last year Tanner earned its first victory at Fred Bostick Jr. Memorial Stadium since Dale Jeffreys took over as Red Bay's head coach.
The Tigers are looking to return the favor this year.
"Since I've been here, we've not beat Tanner in Tanner," Jeffreys said. "We owe them one."
Last year's loss to the Rattlers began a three-game losing streak in the region that dropped Red Bay from title contenders to the fourth-place team.
If the Tigers (5-1, 4-0) can knock off the ninth-ranked Rattlers (5-1, 3-1), they will secure a playoff berth and stay in the race with Lexington for the Region 8 title.
Turnovers will likely be the key in this game. The Red Bay defense recorded six interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries against Phil Campbell last week.
The Tigers also turned the ball over four times.
"If we turn the ball over (against Tanner) it will be a long night," Jeffreys said.
The Rattlers are averaging 27.8 points per game and allowing 11.5 points while the Tigers are scoring 28.8 points per game and allowing 16 point.
The Rattlers are also in the race for the Region 8 title. Their only loss was to Lexington. Tanner needs to win this game and get some help to win the region.
Red Bay can win the region by defeating Tanner, Clements and Lexington. The Tanner and Lexington games are both on the road.
The game begins at 7 p.m.
