    Morris Shadrick Barber

    Morris Shadrick Barber, 88, of Belgreen, Ala. passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Russellville Hospital.
    Mr. Barber was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and member of Belgreen Methodist Church. He was a member of Belgreen Masonic Lodge and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a retired machinist from Reynolds Metals Company.
    At age 71, he built a potter's wheel and fulfilled his childhood dream of making things from clay. His message to anyone, young or old, is to never give up on a dream. It's never too late to do what you have always wanted to do.
    Funeral service will be Thursday, October 8, 2009, 3 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Frank Billingham officiating. Burial will follow in Belgreen Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.
    Survivors include wife, Evelyn Taylor Barber; children, Johnny Barber and wife, Betty Sue, Alta Ann Wilson and husband, Mack, Rebecca South and husband, Robert, Janice Frederick and husband, Lester; grandchildren, Heather Boyd, Wesley Hester, Cale Frederick, Will South; great-grandchildren, Layne Boyd, Audrey Boyd, Abby Boyd, Cohen Hester, Claire Frederick and Mary Ellis Hester.
    Pallbearers will be Wesley Hester, Cale Fredrick, Will South, Heath Boyd, Michael B. Hargett and Mark Taylor.
    Honorary bearers will be Steve Taylor, J.O. Lemay, Jimmy Taylor, Larry Taylor, Steve Hester, Ronnie Hovater, Donald Taylor, Dan Hargett and Neal Hargett.
    He was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Pearl Barber; sisters, Mattie Davis and Mary Cox.
    In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Fund Belgreen Methodist Church or charity of your choice.
    Vickey Gail Pearson
    October 2, 2009
    Vickey Gail Pearson, 52, of Russellville, Ala. passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009.
    Graveside services were held at King Cemetery Oct. 4, with Bro. Arnold Sheets officiating.
    Pallbearers were David Lindsey, Michael Hallman, Josh Lindsey and Dr. Jerrell Meares.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jenkins Pearson; father, William Dale Lindsey and nephew, Russell Meares.
    She is survived by three sons; three grandchildren; mother, Margaret Lindsey; sisters, Debra Meares, Lisa Shaffer; brother, William David Lindsey; a host of nieces and nephews.
    Homer Lee Oliver

    Homer Lee Oliver, 70, Russellville, Ala. passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital.
    Funeral services were held on Oct. 4, at Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Edward LouAllen and Bro. Gene Franks officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memory Gardens.
    Pallbearers were Rickey McDaniel, Mark Lyons, Eric McDaniel, Jim Fuller, Willard Mayfield, Danny Richey. Honorary pallbearers were Leonard "Tee" Pennington, Elvis Engle, Jerry McGee, David Sharp, Eugene Brown, Wayne Springer, Junior Moody and James Bingham.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Sebern Oliver and Mary Ethel McKinney Oliver.
    He is survived by his wife, Clara Sue McDaniel Oliver; son, Norman Lee Oliver and wife, Debbie; daughter, Melissa Sue Lyons and husband, Mark; sister, Alice Ann Oliver Saint and husband, Bill; grandson, Marcus Blade Lyons.
    He was a member of Ligons Springs Baptist Church. He and his wife enjoyed working and attending auctions for 26 years, Russellville Shell and Red Ace Stations for 14 years and being with their friends.
    The family extends their thanks for the love and support to Dr. Lynn Ridgeway, PCU Unit Nurses, Nursing staff at Cottage of the Shoals, Glennwood Rehab and the 3rd and 4th floor nurses at Helen Keller Hospital.

    Hubert B. Swinney, 73, of Phil Campbell, Ala. passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at his residence.
    He was a native of Franklin County, and member of the Baptist Church. He was a Mason, Lodge Number 569, Hammond, Ind.
    Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009, 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Poss, Bro. Joe Holmes and Bro. Carl James officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
    Survivors include wife, Annette Swinney, of Phil Campbell; children, Michael Swinney and wife, Penney, Garryl Lee Swinney, Dianne Napper, Theresa Baxter and husband, Ala., all of Michigan; stepchildren, Jeff Swinney and wife, Rhonda, Donna Nix and husband, Felix, Sandra Keplinger and husband, Johnny, all of Phil Campbell; brother, Buice Swinney, of Phil Campbell; sisters, Clara Herrero, of Mobile, Bernice Wells, of Russellville; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by parents, Earnest and Ollie Swinney; brothers, Travis Swinney, Lucion Swinney, Dolan Swinney, infant brother; sisters, Earlene Herston, Irene Hall and infant sister.
    Madrue Ellen Taylor Skidmore
    October 5, 2009
    Madrue Ellen Taylor Skidmore, 81, of Spruce Pine, Ala. passed from this earth to be with her Lord on Monday, October 5, 2009.
    She was a member of the Quinn Memorial Church of Christ.
    Funeral service will be Thursday, October 8, 2009, 11a.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Lonnie Oldag and Nick Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Skidmore; parents, Grover Joshua and Hester Mary Smith Taylor; sister, Wilma Hester; and brother, Edward Taylor.
    She is survived by husband of 60 years, James Nelson Skidmore; children, Regina Woods and husband, Randy, Rickey Skidmore, and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Clint Skidmore, Dustin Skidmore, Tyler Skidmore and wife, Emily, Nicholas Woods and wife, Katie, Clay Woods; great-grandchildren, Ana Skidmore and Tristan Skidmore; brother, Vernon Taylor and wife, Marjorie, sisters, LaRue Franks and husband, Thomas, Zulene Wood and Evelton Thorne.
    A very special thanks goes out to Imogene Hester; all the nurses at Helen Keller Hospital and all the nurses and staff at the Russellville Davita Dialysis Center.
    Pallbearers will be nephews.

    Carl Dale Whitlock, 55, of Muscle Shoals, formerly of Russellville, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
    Funeral services were held Oct. 6, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Paul Cummings officiating. Interment was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
    He is survived by his son, Timmy White; daughters, Amanda Whitlock and Brandy Whitlock; step-daughter, Adrianne; sisters, Charlene Seal, Betty Collier and husband, Rudy, Gwen Williams and husband, Phillip, and Brenda Hall; brothers, Jimmy Whitlock and wife, Joyce, Kenneth Whitlock and wife, Linda; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Pallbearers were Timmy White, Rudy Collier, Kenneth Whitlock, Freddy Saint, Stacy Seal and Stanley Seal.
    Margaret Pugh Thomas Cason

    Margaret Pugh Thomas Cason, 73, of Haleyville, Ala. passed away Oct. 2, 2009 at Haleyville Health Care and Rehab.
    Funeral services were held Oct. 4, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Loyd Griffus officiating. Burial was in Orange Cemetery.
    She is survived by her children, Connie Loden and husband, Ronald, and Clay Cason and wife, Charity; brothers, J.P. Pugh and wife, Vonnie, and B.W. Pugh and wife, Myrtle; grandchildren, Ron Loden, Jr., Clay Allen Cason and Destiny Faith Cason; and a host of relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ada Pugh; husband, Bob Cason; son, Allen Thomas; brothers, Chester, Verbon, Samuel Alous and Donald Pugh; infant twin daughters of Clay and Charity Cason.

    Waylon Gene McCreless, 65, of Haleyville, Ala. passed away Oct. 2, 2009 at his home.
    Funeral services were held Oct. 4, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Joe Spiller officiating. Burial was in Littleville Cemetery in Haleyville.
    He is survived by daughters, Rhonda Jureece Harris, Karen Renee Adams, Stacey Ann Barnett; seven grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Audie and Lona Reid McCreless.
