Cain returns to county after being released from hospital

The man shot by a Russellville police officer last week now resides in the Franklin County Detention Center, and returned to Franklin County to face attempted murder charges.
District Attorney Joey Rushing said Steven Jeffrey Cain, 47, of 3642 Highway 20 in Phil Campbell, was arrested by the Russellville Police Department over the weekend on charges of attempted murder, second-degree attempted burglary, and second-degree receiving stolen property.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said officers responded to a suspicious person call near Hometown Pharmacy on Gandy Street just before 5 a.m. on Sept. 30.
When officers approached a man and woman walking along Gandy Street in front of Concord Baptist Church officers noticed something suspicious in the man's pocket.
The man then proceeded to run from officers and fired one shot at them.
One of the officers fired back, striking the man in the lower chest area.
He was taken to Russellville Hospital and later flown to Huntsville Hospital.
Rushing said Cain is believed to be responsible for the Sept. 11 shooting at Phil Campbell Drugs, where several shots were fired at a Phil Campbell police officer. However, no formal charges have been filed in connection with the Phil Campbell case.
"It is my understanding that lab work needs to come back before charges can be filed in the Phil Campbell case. However, I fully expect Mr. Cain to be charged with is part in that case in addition to the charges he faces in Russellville," Rushing said.
Rushing said once the charges are formally filed, Cain would be rearrested for the Phil Campbell charges, and another bond hearing will be set.
In the meantime, Cain has been transported to the Franklin County Detention Center pending a $250,000 bond.
