The Russellville Municipal Airport will be hosting special guests this weekend as they honor local veterans during their Open House Saturday.
Airport Board Chairman Bill Pugh said the board has been planning the event for several years, and finally got everything together for the weekend's event.
"We've worked several years to honor our veterans and airmen who have served," Pugh said.
The event will feature guest appearance of the Tuskegee Airmen. The event will also feature a flag retirement service and an honor guard presented by the American Legion Post #31 from Tuscumbia.
"We have a lot of World War II veterans in the community, and we want to recognize them for their service," Pugh said.
Pugh said this is a rain or shine event. The flag retirement ceremony will be held at noon with the official ceremonies beginning at 1 p.m.
Pugh said there will be something for every member of the family. Skydivers, vintage planes, and emergency vehicles will be on display at the event.
There is no admission for the event. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken wings will be available at the event. Donations will be collected to help cover the cost of the event.
"We just ask anyone who can to make a reasonable donation to help us cover our cost of the event," Pugh said.
The Russellville City Council voted to honor Pugh for his hard work and dedication to the airport board and to the airport by naming the airport in his honor.
