UNA facing ranked foe

The University of North Alabama football team rolled to a 41-9 victory against Southern Arkansas last week, but the Lions get their first battle with a ranked opponent tonight when Carson-Newman visits Braly Stadium.
Carson-Newman, ranked No. 22, and the Lions have met eight times over the years with five of those games occurring during the Division II playoffs.
UNA holds a 7-1 series record against the Eagles. The loss was a 21-7 defeat at Carson-Newman in 1997.
This will be the seventh time during the all-time series that both teams are nationally ranked when they took the field.
This will be the 75th time since 1992 the Lions have played a nationally ranked team. UNA has a 45-28-1 record in the previous 74 games.
Carson-Newman opened the season ranked ninth, but last week's 17-12 loss to Winona State led to a 13-spot slip in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Poll.
UNA is ranked fourth in the poll.
