    Edna Louise Harris

    Edna Louise Harris, 78, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at ECM Hospital in Florence.
    Funeral services were held August 3, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, with Brother Jack Harris officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
    She was a faithful member of Centerview Church of Christ. Her many acts of Christian kindness were a great role model for her children and grandchildren. She was a retired seamstress from H.D. Lee, Co.
    She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hester and husband, Billy, of Russellville; son, Terry Harris and wife, Allison, of Florence; sister, Betty Grimes, of Russellville; brother, Carl Jackson and wife, Iva Lee, of Russellville; grandchildren, Mark Hester, of Florence, Mike Hester and wife, Lisa, of Tuscumbia, Lea Easley and husband, Cal, of Jackson, Miss., Beth Pride Harris, of Florence; seven great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Harris; sons, Wayne Bryan and Tommy Harris; parents, Truman and Margie Jackson; dear sister, Mavis Dill; brothers, Wayne Jackson and J.C. Jackson, all of Russellville.
    Pallbearers were Gene Hester, Bob Rickard, Jimmy Sparks, Gerald Ricketts, Donnie Horton and Greg Hovater.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital.

    Mary Gladys Howell Yocom

    Mary Gladys Howell Yocom, 58, of Russellville, went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, August 1, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
    Mrs. Yocom had lived her entire life in Franklin County and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Russellville. She worked side by side with her husband, co-owner of Economy Carpet in Muscle Shoals, for over 15 years.
    Funeral services were held August 4, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville, with burial in Franklin Memory Gardens. Rev. Wayne Wilson and Pastor Arnold Sheets officiated.
    She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ray Yocom, of Russellville; mother, Erlene Howell, of Russellville; children, Candi Bales and husband, Shawn, and Tonya James and husband, Brandon, both of Russellville; sister, Linda Troutt and husband, Buddy, of Muscle Shoals; brother, John Howell and wife, Diane, of Taft, Tenn.; grandsons, Dylan and Braden Bales; granddaughter, Chloe James; four nieces, one nephew; and three great-nieces.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Howell.
    Pallbearers were Donald Stephenson, Jimmy Fuller, Anthony Mayberry, Lewis Patterson, Dwight Bohannon, Alan Young.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Freddy Hall, Ken Landers and Tim Horton.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church Russellville, Building Fund.
    Special thanks to our pastor, Arnold Sheets: Linda Hall, Andrea Mayberry, Sandy Mitchell, and all our church family; Amy, Sue, Susan, and all of Keller Hospice; Northwest Alabama Cancer Center.
    Frances Saarinen
    July 31, 2009
    Frances McMurry Saarinen, 65, of Somerset, Ky., died Friday, July 31, 2009.
    She was a native of Franklin County, Ala. and a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Phil Campbell.
    Funeral services were held August 2, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Gene Franks and Carl Gaston officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove (Nix) Cemetery, west of Liberty Hill.
    Survivors include her husband, Steve Saarinen; sons, Jeff Saarinen and wife, Donna, Bobby Saarinen and Mark Saarinen; grandchildren, Gabriel Miller and Kaylee Saarinen; brother, Dolan McMurry and wife, Martha; sisters, Peggy Smith, Vonnie Scarpetta, Jean Clark and Joyce Berg.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, H.M. and Lillie Graves McMurry; brother, Barney McMurry; two infant brothers; and sister, Marcell Jones.
    She was a joyful Christian and the sunshine of our home.

    Jeffrey David Franks, 55, of Russellville, Ala., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Russellville Hospital.
    Funeral services were held August 3, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Larry Crumpton and Bro. Wayne Boyles. Interment was in Providence Cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by parents, Leo and Hazel Franks; father-in-law, Robert J. Crosslin; mother-in-law, Irene Crosslin.
    He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen Crosslin Franks; sons, Richie Franks, Jonathan Franks, Bradley Franks; step-daughter, Chree Boyd; grandchildren, Wylie Boyd and Ashton Boyd; brother, Richard Franks; sister, Connie Daniel; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
    Pallbearers were Jimmy Hood, Cade Boyd and Keith Ligon. Honorary pallbearers were Wylie Boyd, Ashton Boyd and Robert Shumate.
    Mr. Franks was a member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Town Creek. He loved his family very much. He enjoyed being with his two grandsons. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and Hospice of North Alabama. A special thanks to Dr. Keith Morrow and Dr. Scott Boswell.

    Marilyn Joyce Higgins, 56, of Florence, died August 1, 2009 at her residence. She was born May 9, 1953 in Missouri to Hugh and Stella Williams Higgins. She attended Center Hill Baptist Church in Counce, Tenn.
    Services will be Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Keith Driscale officiating. Burial will be in the Ridge Cemetery.
    She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Smith and fianc/, Brent Moffitt, of Red Bay and Heather Martin and fianc/, Kevin Bevens, of Florence; three grandchildren, Danielle Smith, Dakota Clayton, and Lauren Smith; five sister, Yvonne DeVaney, of Russellville, Barbara Tucker, of Red Bay, Peggy Graham and husband, Jerry, of Fulton, Ala., Ruth Nickolich and husband, Ed, Indianapolis, Ind. and Kathy Hill, Tishomingo, Miss.; one brother, Tommy Higgins, of S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lois Higgins and Clara Olive.
    Pallbearers will be Tim Hill, Allan Alford, Kevin Bevens, Brent Moffitt, David McDonald and Greg Nunley. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie DeVaney, Randy DeVaney, Thomas DeVaney, Michael Hill, Kirk Alford, Tommy Higgins, Jr. and Jonathan Higgins.
    Thestle Patterson

    Thestle Patterson, 88, of Golden, Miss., died July 31, 2009 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born April 17, 1921 in Tishomingo County, Miss. to Benjamin and Samantha Harrison Patterson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Bay.
    Funeral services were held August 2, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Mickey Trammel officiating. Burial was in the Ridge Cemetery.
    Survivors include her nieces, Regina Sparks, of Golden, Miss. Martha Logalbo, of Killen, Ala. and Peggy Woods, of Golden, Miss.; her nephews, Jimmy Patterson and C.K. Patterson, both of Red Bay; her sister-in-law, Lillian Patterson, of Red Bay; and several other nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers, Arthur, Aubrey, Rabon, Charles, Odis, Adis, Leo, Henry and Delmer Patterson.
    Pallbearers were Jimmy Patterson, C.K. Patterson, Drew Williams, Austin Sparks, Eddie Woods and Jeremy McDougal.
    Craig Randall Hiser

    Craig Randall Hiser, 56, of Daytona, Fla. died Monday, July 27, 2009 at Halifax Health Medical Center in Port Orange, Fla. He was born January 31, 1953 in Adrian, Mich. He was self-employed as a construction worker for 30 years.
    He is survived by two sons, Jason Hiser and wife, Leisa, of Hodges and Chad Hiser and wife, Neesha, of Red Bay; one daughter, Savannah Hiser, of Fla.; parents, William and Marilyn Hiser, of Adrian, Mich.; three brothers, Barry Hiser and wife, Sue and Rusty Hiser and wife, Lisa, all of Mich., and Steve Hiser and wife, Susie, of Birmingham, Ala.; and six grandchildren, Maggie, Eli, Katlyne, Kurtlan, Collin and Caiden Hiser.
    Mary Ellen West

    Mary Ellen West, 76, of Russellville, Ala. passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009 at Russellville Hospital.
    Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ottie Sandusky officiating. Interment will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleston West; son, Dewayne Burnett; parents, Dock and Della Weeks Burnett; and brother, Hubert Wayne Burnett.
    She is survived by her sons, Odell West and wife, Pam, of Killen, Ala., Ernest West and wife, Angela, of Russellville; daughter, Diane Roche and husband, Mike, of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Malina and husband, Joe, Gilbert Dewayne and wife, Deb, Tammy and husband, Adam, Linda and husband, Steve, Sharon and husband, Travis, Lenny and wife, Ashley, Vience, Eric, Joshua and wife, Stephanie, and Christopher; eight step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers, Coy Burnett and Roy Burnett, both of Russellville; sisters, Veta Mae Warhurst and Martha Farr, both of Russellville; several nieces and nephews.
    She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
    A little girl gave a wonderful explanation of the final years and death of her grandmother. She said to her mother after the funeral: "Mom, you always said that Grandma walked and talked with God. What I think happened is that one day God and Grandma went for an extra long walk, and they walked on and talked on, until God said to Grandma, 'You are a long way from home and are so tired, you had better just come home with me and stay.' And Grandma went"
