City's amnesty period wraps up

By Staff
Melissa Cason
The days of July are steadily whittling away, and so is the amnesty period for the Russellville Municipal Court.
Court Clerk LaDonna Hitt said her office has gotten tons of phone calls regarding the amnesty period, but only a few have taken advantage of the period.
"We have people who have been able to get their cases resolved without going to jail," Hitt said.
Hitt said it's important that anyone with an active warrant come to the municipal building before 4 p.m. on Friday to take advantage of the amnesty period.
"Once August gets here, everything not ordered by the judge will go under the new court cost guidelines," Hitt said.
Court costs are set to increase $26 on Aug. 1 thanks to the state increase of $10, and the District Attorney's Solicitor's fee of $16, which goes to help run the district attorney's office, per case.
"People have a chance to stay out of jail, and save money," Hitt said. "I hope that more will come in and take advantage of the amnesty period."
Hitt said that if having to pay a fine is keeping anyone from taking advantage of the amnesty period, payment arrangements can be made, and more time can be given to pay the fine.
For more information, call 332-8700 or go to the municipal building as soon as possible.
