On Thursday, July 23, the Franklin County Arts Council will sponsor the 9th Annual W.C. Handy "Evening at the Roxy" at 7:00 p.m.
The RHS Jazz Band and friends performing music celebrating W.C. Handy's contributions to the music industry will provide entertainment. Entertainers include Franklin County Idol winners—Ethan Pharr, Chase Holland and Anna Brooke Garrison.
Also performing are Danyelle Hillman, Bobby Winston, P.J. Winston, Emma McDowell, Hannah Keller, Ella West, Taylor Townley, Lydia Wade, Emily Crummie, Brooklin Hall, Blaze Bishop, Liza Jane Richey and others.
Each year, the W.C. Handy Festival grows larger. It brings people from all over the state as well as from other states to northwest Alabama, which promotes the tourism in our area and helps our economy.
The Arts Council takes pride in the restoration of the historic Roxy Theatre. Senator Roger Bedford has been instrumental in getting grants for the Roxy renovation, and will be honored at this event for his contributions to the Roxy.
The Arts Council wants to present quality, wholesome programs that the entire family can enjoy.
We want to thank the following sponsors for their continued support of the W.C. Handy "Evening at the Roxy" event: Clark Pulley, Russellville Electric, Water and Gas Boards, CB&S Bank, Valley State Bank, Bank Independent, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, Sinclair Lawrence Insurance, Bedford, Rogers and Bowling, Joe and Carolyn Porter, Hester Printing, Franklin County Times, Yogi's, Sherry Trapp/Farmer's Insurance, Franklin Electric Coop, Community Spirit Bank, Lanny Norris/State Farm, WGOL, Tires and More, B&M Paints, Windows &Doors, D&D Building Supply, Abstract &Appraisal/Wanda Myrick, Jim Alverson Properties, Sam's Blossom Shop, First Metro Bank, Wooten Chiropractic, Jeff and Leah Masterson, William and Debbie Nale, David and Melissa Grissom and Troy and Brenda Oliver.
