A Winston County couple was arrested Monday after officials found chemicals used to make methamphetamine in their vehicle.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said Gregory Shawn Harris, 22, and Katie Armstrong, 26, both of 3078 County Road 20 in Haleyville, were arrested and charged with second-degree attempting to manufacture a controlled substance.
"The items were found during a routine traffic stop," Plott said. "Officers found several items used to produce meth including lye, fuel, salt, fertilizer, and lithium batteries."
Officials said Armstrong admitted they were coming to Russellville to purchase the medication used in meth production with the other chemicals found in the vehicle.
The couple were booked into the Franklin County Dentention Center, where they await a bond hearing.
According to Alabama Criminal Code, second degree attempt to manufacture a controlled substance is a Class B felony, which carries a penalty of two to 20 years upon conviction.
