Council approves police promotion Melissa Cason

By Staff
RED BAY – Lt. Eddie Chandler has a new title at the Red Bay Police Department as the city council voted to approve his promotion to captain Monday night.
Chandler has been a part of the department for more than 10 years, and has served at the rank of lieutenant for a number of years. He is also Red Bay's investigator, the person who helps investigate serious crime following the initial report done by the officer.
"Capt. Chandler has done an outstanding job for our department and the city," Police Chief Pat Creel, who requested he be promoted, said. "He is dedicated to our city and department."
Mayor Bobby Forsythe thanked Chandler for his years of service and good work during the June 15 council meeting, where the council went into executive session to discuss his promotion. No decision was made because of Creel's absence from the meeting due to an illness.
The department currently has one captain and one sergeant in addition to Creel and Assistant Chief Jana Jackson.
In other business, the council voted to:
Before adjourning, Forsythe announced he was asking that the flags in the park be flown longer because of the patriotic message it sends to visitors and residents.
The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
