A man suspected of first-degree rape was released Friday on a $75,000 property bond.
Police Chief Chris Hargett said Mark Anthony Hurley, 32, of 522 Filmore Street in Russellville, was arrested on the rape charge Thursday night at a residence on Gravel Hill Road in Russellville with the assistance of U.S. Marshals.
Hurley was arrested based on the statement from a female victim who claims Hurley raped her using force following a party June 6.
"The couple was returning from a party when they stopped by the suspect's residence, where the incident occurred," Hargett said.
The victim sustained only minor injuries including scratches and bruises.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, first-degree rape is a Class A felony, which carries a sentence of 20 years to life upon conviction.
Hargett said Demond Hamilton, 37, of Gravel Hill Road in Russellville, was also arrested Thursday night and charged with hindering prosecution, which is a Class C felony, which carries a sentence of one to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
Hurley was released from the Franklin County Detention Center Friday after posting a $75,000 property bond.
