City man charged with theft, robbery

A Russellville man turned himself into authorities Monday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle with passengers inside and assaulting them.
Chief Chris Hargett said Douglas Lavern Craig, 41, of 419 Montgomery Street in Russellville, was charged with first-degree theft of property and first-degree robbery.
Hargett said Craig allegedly forced a vehicle occupied by two females off the road, assaulted them and left with them both in the vehicle.
"The victims later escaped from the vehicle," Hargett said.
Hargett said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence incident with one of the female victims.
Craig is also being charged with third-degree assault, and third-degree domestic violence, both misdemeanor charges. However, first-degree robbery is a Class A felony, which carries a punishment of 10 years to life in prison upon conviction, and first-degree theft of property is a Class B felony, which is punishable by two to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
Craig was transferred to the Franklin County Detention Center pending a $7,500 bond.
