Mary DeStefano

Mary Ethel DeStefano, 91, of Red Bay, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Southern Magnolia Estates in Golden, Miss. She was born October 27, 1917 in Illinois to Edward and Mayme Nelson Ham. She worked as a librairan in Anticoh, Ill for 22 years.
Memorial services were held Friday, May 29, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home in REd Bay with Scotty Young officiating. Burill was in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Vina.
Ms. DeStefano is survived by two children, Pamela (Carlos) Creekmore of Vina, and Michael (Nancy) DeStefano of York, S.C.; grandchildren, Patricia Higginbottom, Kevin Creekmoore, Keith Creekmore, Linda Walrod, Jason DeStefano, Josh DeStefano, Joey DeStefano, Emily DeStefano, Elizabeth DeStefano, Elena DeStefano, and Jacob DeStefano, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph DeStefano.
Edith Black

Edith Mae Black, 78, of Red Bay, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital. She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and was an employee at Lance Garment Co. and Golden Manufacturing for many years.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, at Deaton Funeral Home with Bro. Loyd Ray Griffus officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Blak is survived by daughter, Susan (Dwain) Hargett of Muscle Shoals; son, Bruce (Charlotte) Black of Red Bay; grandchildren, Christopher (Julie) Hargett of Bloomington, Ill., Channing (Krisitn) Black of Winter Park, Fla., Chadrick (Dana) Black of Lewisburge, In., Melanie (Jon) Collum of Muscle Shoals; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Carson and Allie Black, and Saylor and Kate Collum; sisters, Magilene Kuykendall of Red Bay, Betty Hacker and JoAnn Ragsdale, both of Russellville, Geneva Turner of Memphis, Tenn., and Jenny Strickland of Cypress Inn, Tenn; many nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Trannie B. Black, an infant daughter, Brenda Carolyn Black and her parents, Thomas Aubrey and Edna Muriel Strickland.
Pallbearers for the service included Christopher Hargett, Channing Black, Chadrick Black, Jon Collum, Danny Hacker and Joey Kuykendall.
Richmond Hopson Tompkins

Richmond Hopson "R.H." Tompkins, Jr., 70, of Russellville, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his residence.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Mike Stancil and Bro. Andy Cansler officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Memory Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.H., Sr. and Carrie King Tompkins and grandson, Blake Tompkins.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Tompkins; children, Mark Tompkins and wife, Tamra, Pam Hester and husband, Ty, Mike Tompkins and wife, Ginger; grandchildren, Chase Hester, Anna Tompkins, Caitlyn Tompkins, Colby Tompkins, Alyssa Tompkins, Brooke Tompkins; brother, Johnny Lee Tompkins; and 2 nieces and nephews.
R.H. graduated from Florence State in 1960 with a business major. After graduation, he worked in the accounting department at the hospital in Russellville. Following the death of his parents, he began working in the family business expanding it to become one of the largest cattle order buyers of the south. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandmother.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Belgreen Volunteer Fire Department.

Wanita Mixon Stone

Wanita Mixon Stone of Conyers, Ga, formerly of Russellville, Ala., passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the age of 92.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Dr. George Wesley Mixon and Lillie Mae Mixon; and sisters, Lucille Mixon, Beatrice Gentle, Wesley Mae Hill, Ruth Flippo and Sarah Traude.
She is survived by three children; Carol Stone Shotts, of Conyers, Ga., William Stone, of Norwood, N.C., and Nancy Stone, of Alabaster, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Stephen Shotts, of Monroe, Ga., Gregory Shotts, of Elkmont, Ala., Eve Stone Hall, of Granger, Ind., Susan Stone Drake, of Huntersville, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville, Ala. Burial will be at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg, Ala.
