City receives airport grant

By Staff

City officials learned Tuesday that a $125,812 grant had been secured for the Russellville Municipal Airport.
Congressman Robert Aderholt and Sen. Richard Shelby made the announcement.
The funds come from the Federal Aviation Administration and will be used for the construction of new hangars at the airport.
"I'm pleased to see the federal government working with the city of Russellville to address this transportation need," Aderholt said. "We all know that solid transportation is key to maintaining economic development in our entire area, and creating new jobs."
This project will demolish the old shade hangars and construct new ones, as the current shade hangars have exceeded their useful life and are a safety concern. The new hangars will provide a safe environment for the storage of aircraft.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that the Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a total of $1,976,857 to six regional airports in Alabama for infrastructure improvements.
"Investing in the infrastructure of Alabama's regional airports will not only provide the safest and most efficient transportation services for Alabamians, but also ensure that the area remains desirable for residents and businesses," Shelby said. "This grant will provide funding to help Alabama's regional airports make improvements that are necessary to accommodate those traveling to, from, and through our great state."
Of the $1,976,857 awarded to Alabama, the following regional airports will receive funding:
