Veal hired to guide NWSCC

By Staff
MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest-Shoals Community College has hired former Phillips High School coach, Scott Veal, as its men's basketball coach, according to NW-SCC Athletic Administrator, Charles Taylor.
"Scott has the experience and love for the community we were looking for in a coach. I believe he can build a winning tradition with our men's basketball program," Taylor said. "He has been very successful coaching at Phillips; especially, the last couple of seasons."
Prior to coming to NW-SCC, Veal has been the basketball coach at Phillips since 2002. Veal coached Phillips to an elite eight appearance in the 2008 Alabama High School state tournament and a final four appearance – the first in school history – in 2009. He finished the 2008-09 season with a 31-5 record.
Following his record-breaking season, Veal received the honor of being selected to coach the North squad in the 12th annual Alabama North-South All-star game.
Throughout his seven seasons at Phillips, Veal has amassed a 130-64 record, a .670 winning percentage.
"Getting this opportunity to coach at a place that is so dear and close to my heart is a dream come true," Veal said. "I am really looking forward to getting started and getting this program back to where it deserves to be in this state and that's on top."
