RB mayor addresses reckless driving

RED BAY – Mayor Bobby Forsythe warned that the police department would be handling reckless drivers in the city should during the regular council meeting.
"There have been heavy squealing of tires in the city," Forsythe said. "We've received reports of one car doing a donut in front of the post office. Drivers are not being responsible."
Forsythe said irresponsible drivers will be dealt with by law enforcement.
"I encourage Chief (Pat) Creel to get with every officer and put a stop to their silliness," Forsythe said. "When you get behind the wheel, you are responsible for yourself and others on the roadway."
During the city business portion of the meeting, the council approved the cost to purchase two new police vehicles. The two vehicles with all the needed equipment totals $44,886.60. The council voted to pay 20 percent down, which comes to $8,977.32.
The balance of $35,909.28 will be financed over a period of four years. The council will accept bids on the financing from local banks. The city will open and approve loan bid at the March 16 meeting.
Creel informed the council that the city received 12 applications for the patrol officer position left open by the resignation of long time officer Sgt. Scotty Chandler in January.
Creel and council members David Tiffin and Charlene Fancher will review the applications and hope to have a recommendation for the council at the March 16 meeting.

Forsythe announced the temporary employment openings for the park and recreation manage, who will manage the fun park this summer, lifeguards, and concession stand employees for the fun park and Dixie Youth Baseball fields.
Council Member Brad Bolton reminded residents that the final night for Dixie Youth Baseball registration will be Friday night at city hall from 5 to 10 p.m. The cost for play is $35 per child. For more information on the Dixie Youth Baseball program in Red Bay, call Heath Glover at 356-2358.
The next regular council meeting will be held on March 16 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
