Johnson joins Church of God at Bethel
Melissa Cason
RED BAY – The Church of God at Bethel in Red Bay named a new pastor last month, and they are working to grow their congregation.
Myron Johnson, of Golden, Miss., was appointed as the full-time pastor at the church, and while he's new to pastoring the church, he's not new the work of God.
Johnson has been in the ministry for more than 20 years, and he said he really didn't have any other choice than to serve God by teaching His word.
"I didn't really have a choice but to become a preacher," Johnson said. "When God calls you, he calls you, and that's pretty much it."
Johnson has been a pastor of a smaller church in a more rural community before, but he mostly has been an evangelist, going from church to church as a guest speaker.
Johnson is the new pastor at the church, but he's not new to the church. He and his wife, Rhonda, have been attending the church for a while, and Johnson has been filling in as interim pastor since last fall.
"I've been doing this a while, but they just recently voted to make me pastor here," Johnson said.
Church services meet every Sunday morning and night and Wednesday night.
"We want to invite everyone to come and join us in worship," Johnson said.
Johnson said morning services begin at 10 a.m. with evening services at 6 p.m. and Wednesday services at 7 p.m.
