Red Bay council approves budget

RED BAY – The Red Bay City Council approved the city's first budget in 12 years in the regular council meeting Monday night.
The budget committee, made up of Charlene Fancher, Brad Bolton and Mike Stockton, submitted the budget to the council, and it was accepted unanimously.
"We decreased every department area that could be decreased, " Fancher told the council. "This is a starting point. There could be changes."
Fancher and the other council members asked for all the department heads to strictly adhere to the budget.
"We're in a tight," Fancher said. "Anything else [outside the budget] goes before the council before it is spent."
Fancher said the biggest decrease is in the fun park. The city spent $55,369 in salaries alone for the park. The budget only allows for $26,100 to be spent during the upcoming season.
The city's total income will be $2,220,735, and total expenses are $2,212,588.
"The city is to break even and to provide services," Bolton said. "Department heads are going to be key."
