PHIL CAMPBELL – A one-vehicle accident just south of Phil Campbell claimed the life of a Haleyville woman Monday afternoon.
Officials said Sonya L. Morris, 36, of Haleyville, was killed in the accident that occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Alabama 13, just south of downtown Phil Campbell.
State troopers said Morris was the only person in the vehicle. Franklin County Coroner Elzie Malone pronounced her dead at the scene.
Reports indicate the 2005 Pontiac Vibe was traveling south on Alabama 13 when the car left the road. Officials said it traveled along a ditch for almost 200 feet before striking a culvert and causing the car to become airborne.
Troopers said the vehicle struck a tree about 6 to 8 feet off the ground near the Alabama 13 and Cross Winds Road intersection.
