Russellville boys host, other teams hit road

The Russellville varsity boys basketball team will begin its 2009 playoff campaign at home after finishing the season with a 6-0 record in area play to secure the right to host the Class 5A, Area 15 Tournament.
The Golden Tigers are the only local boys team to host an area tournament and will play fourth-seed Hartselle Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Muscle Shoals vs. Athens game in the finals set for Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
Two county teams will play in the opening game of the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament as fourth-seeded Phil Campbell plays fifth-seeded Red Bay at 6 p.m. Feb. 3 at Mars Hill. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play Mars Hill at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6.
The 1A, Area 15 Tournament will be held at Phillips. Fourth seed Tharptown will play Vina at 5 p.m. Feb. 3 and the winner will advance to play Phillips at 6:30 p.m. Feb.6.
Belgreen, the No.2-seed, has a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Speake vs. Mt. Hope game at 5 p.m. Feb. 6. The finals will be Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
