Student Q&A

By Staff
Kim West
Name: Mollie Hester
School: Belgreen
Grade/age: 6th, 11 years old
Teacher: Ms. Rachel Billingham
Family: Deborah and Jahu Hester; brother, Will, 15; sister, Summer, 15
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A teacher. I would like to teach science.
Where do you want to go to college?
Auburn because we already have an apartment there, and my dad went to school there.
What are your hobbies?
I collect postcards. I don't buy them; people send them to me. I have about 20 – I started collecting them three years ago. I was going to collect stamps, but people kept sending me the same ones.
What is your favorite postcard in your collection?
I got one from St. Thomas (in the U.S. Virgin Islands). It's really pretty, and it has a sailboat in the background.
Do you play any sports?
I cheer and play basketball. I like cheering the best, and my sister helps me sometimes. I like doing cartwheels the best. My brother can do them, too, but my sister can't. It's kind of funny because she's a cheerleader, and he's a basketball player.
What is your favorite subject in school?
Science because of the AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative) projects.
What is your least favorite subject?
English. I don't get the indirect objects and direct objects. I hope Ms. Taylor doesn't get the newspaper.
If you were principal for a day, what would you do?
There would be no homework, and I would have a teacher volleyball game. I think that would be funny to watch.
Who is your favorite teacher, past or present?
Ms. Tara Oliver. She's my science teacher, and she's fun.
Which person do you admire the most?
My mom because she's not that strict. She's only strict if we do something wrong.
What is the longest you've been grounded?
Probably three weeks. I don't remember how old I was, but I was running up the steps and I ended up having to get stitches because I fell. She always said, 'Don't run, don't run (up the stairs), or you'll fall and bust your chin open,' and that's exactly what happened.
Name one place you would like to visit.
St. Thomas. My mom and cousin had their honeymoons there, and my mom wants to go back some day. She had a St. Thomas sailboat magnet that was her favorite, but it broke.
What kind of music do you enjoy? Who is your favorite singer?
Country, and I like Toby Keith and his song, "Let's Talk About Me." My dad used to have a Toby Keith CD with that song on it, and he would pop it in and let it repeat.
What is your favorite homemade food and restaurant?
I like the honey bun cake my grandmother makes, and I Iike the steak at George's (in Muscle Shoals).
If you could meet any person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Eleanor Roosevelt. I did a report on her, and I thought she was really neat. We learned in history that she helped someone sing at the Lincoln Memorial, and I thought that was interesting.
