Belgreen boys, girls capture top seeds as Franklin County Tournament bracket announced

The brackets for the Franklin County Basketball Tournament were announced Monday with one school – Belgreen – sweeping the top seeds for the varsity tournament and Phil Campbell getting the top spot in the B-team boys bracket.
Belgreen also captured the top seeds for the seventh and eighth grade boys tournament and the ninth grade boys tournament.
Red Bay earned the top seeds for the seventh and eighth grade tournament and the ninth grade tournament.
The seventh and eighth grade and the ninth grade tournaments will run from Jan. 5 through Jan. 12 at Red Bay High School.
The varsity and B-team tournaments will run Jan. 13-17 at Phil Campbell High School.
The varsity boys tournament begins Jan. 13 when fourth-seeded Vina plays No.-5 Tharptown at 7:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals against Belgreen Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
The other varsity boys semifinal will be Jan. 16 when second-seeded Red Bay plays No.-3 Phil Campbell at 8 p.m.
The final of the varsity boys tournament will be Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.
The varsity girls tournament will also begin Jan. 13 as No.-4 Phil Campbell plays fifth-seeded Vina at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Belgreen Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.
The other semifinal game features No.-2 Red Bay and No.-3 Tharptown playing Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The final of the varsity girls tournament will be Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
The B-team tournament will have only two games as there are only three teams participating. Phil Campbell received an automatic berth in the finals as the top seed.
Tharptown, the No.-2 seed, will play Belgreen Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. and the winner will advance to the finals Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.
The ninth grade boys tournament begins Jan. 5 when No-4 seed Tharptown plays No.-5 seed East Franklin at 7:15 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Belgreen Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
It will continue Jan. 8 when No.-3 seed Phil Campbell takes on sixth-seeded Vina at 7:15 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Red Bay Jan. 10 at 4:45 p.m. The finals will be Jan 12 at 8:15 p.m.
The ninth grade girls tournament will also start Jan. 5 as fourth-seeded East Franklin plays No.-5 Tharptown at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Red Bay Jan. 10 at 1 p.m.
Third-seeded Phil Campbell will play sixth-seed Vina Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to play Belgreen Jan. 10 at 2:15 p.m. The finals will be Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
Fourth-seeded Phil Campbell will get the seventh and eighth grade boys tournament started when it plays fifth seeded Vina at 5 p.m. with the winner advancing to the semifinals against Belgreen Jan. 10 at 11 a.m.
The other semifinal will feature No.-2 Red Bay taking on No.-3 Tharptown at noon. The finals will be Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.
There are only three schools competing in the seventh and eighth grade girls tournament and Red Bay received an automatic berth in the finals as the top seed.
Second-seeded Tharptown will host No.-3 Vina Jan. 8 at 5 p.m. with the winner taking on Red Bay Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.
