Belgreen boys roll past Mt. Hope

MOUNT HOPE – After getting off to a slow start this season, the Belgreen varsity boys basketball team showed Mount Hope it was not a group of pushovers.
The Bulldogs cruised past the Yellow Jackets 75-34 to improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Area 15 play.
"We finally got it a little," said Belgreen coach Dan Bell. "We got out of our own way."
During the first quarter, both teams went on impressive scoring streaks as Belgreen jumped out to an early 7-0 lead only to fall behind 9-7.
The Bulldogs answered by scoring 14 consecutive points to take a 21-11 advantage after the first quarter and pushed its lead to 41-22 at halftime.
The third quarter was a low-scoring affair with both teams combining to score only 11 points during the frame.
The Bulldogs were able to shake off the effects of the third to put together an offensive clinic in the fourth.
Belgreen scored 27 points in the final quarter.
Four players reached double-digit scoring for the Bulldogs including B.J. Horton with 16 points, Derrick Simmons and Brandon Hester with 14 points each and Spencer Hargett with 12 points.
