    Eugene "Piney" Bragwell

    Eugene "Piney" Bragwell, 95, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at Russellville Health Care.
    He was a native of Franklin County and member of Isbell Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He was retired from the Alabama Highway Department as a mechanic.
    The funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Edward Bragwell officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon until 2 p.m.
    He is survived by his son, Jerry Bragwell of Russellville; daughter, Sue B. Taylor of Russellville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Pallbearers will be Roger Bragwell, Russell Bragwell, Joel Bragwell, Hollis Bragwell, Clay Trimble, Thomas Cleveland, Andy Cansler and William C. King.
    He was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Evelyn Benson Bragwell; son, Bobby Bragwell; parents, Will and Modena Bragwell; grandchildren, Chris, Mark and Randy Bragwell; great-grandchild, Taylor Trimble; sisters, Irene Williams and Pauline Duncan; and brothers, Valson, Fox, Dolph, Pete and Cosey Bragwell.
    The family offers special thanks to Russellville Health Care for their excellent care.

    Mary "Frances" Bailey, 75, of Littleville, Ala., passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at her residence.
    She was born in Haleyville Alabama and had lived in Littleville for several years. She was a member of North Highland Baptist Church in Littleville.
    The funeral service was Oct. 27 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Bro. Paul Cummings officiating. Burial was in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
    She is survived by her husband, Wafford E. Bailey of Littleville; daughter, Jean Ellen Burnett and husband Steve of Muscle Shoals; son, Tim Bailey of Littleville; brothers, Emmett L. Mize of Mobile and Tony Mize and Wilburn Mize of Haleyville; sister, Virginia Logan of Haleyville; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Maggie Mize, and brother, Gene Mize.

    Wesley A.C. Newell, 84, of Red Bay, Ala., passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at Red Bay Hospital.
    He was born Sept. 18, 1924 in Red Bay to Oscar Orlander and Rosa May Yielding Newell. He was a barber and attended Calvary Family Worship Center.
    Funeral services were Oct. 27 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Gene Cooley and Bro. Rickey McMickin officiating. Burial was in Dempsey Cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by his wife 60 years, Audrey Lee Newell; son, David Wesley Newell; his parents; sisters, Nancy Garrison Shupe and Ellie Strickland; and grandson, Jonathan Steven Parks.
    He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Peck and husband Richard of Red Bay; son, Rickie Newell of Guntown; grandchildren, Susie Cox, Wesley Parks, Misty Howell, Jordan Newell, Anna Newell and Alexander Newell; great-grandchildren, Kelan Lang, Malachi Lang, Reed Parks, Blake Hester, Alaina Hester and Alix Hester; great-grandchild, Cayden Mitchell; siblings, Jack "Bud" Newell of Fairview, Miss., Ann Garrison Starling of Tupelo, Miss. and Onice Smith Decanter, Mary Milam Anderson and Travis Wesley Newell, all of Red Bay.
    Pallbearers were Jerry Smith, Jimmy Durham, Rodney Bolton, Jamie Milam, Mikey Milam and Josh Roe.

    Joel A. Carey Sr., 92, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at Azalea Manor in Alabama. He was born April 28, 1916 in Florida.
    Funeral services were Oct. 25 at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Haleyville with Ricky White and Harold Dover officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
    He is survived by his children, Monza Carder, Brenda Adler, Nancy Alexander, Joel A. Carey II and Shunta Cooper; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nancy Carey; daughters, Marie Andrande and Dorothy Carey; wife, Alice Lorene Carey; and several brothers and sisters.

    Mamie Louise Estep, 82, of Haleyville, Ala., passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. She was born in Mooresville and attended Bethel Baptist Church.
    Funeral services were Oct. 26 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Michael Farris officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
    She is survived by her children, Louise Anderson and Jerry Whorton; brother, John Edward Harbin; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Estep; parents, George and Martha Stewart; children, Harold Thomas Whorton, Wanda Faye Whorton and Janie Kaye Whorton; and siblings, Tressie Jones, James Harrison, Ellen Harrison and Edna Harrison.

    George Washington Thorn
    October 24, 2008
    George Washington Thorn, 91, of Estill Springs, Tenn., and formerly of Decatur, Ala., went to be with Jesus Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. He was born Feb. 1, 1917. A native of Franklin County, Ala., he had made his home with his family in Estill Springs for the past 21 years. He was a member of the Riva Lake Baptist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Aggie DeVaney Thorn; sisters, Linnie Lemley and an infant sister; and brothers, Jack Thorn, Disker Thorn, Everett Thorn, Lester Thorn, Jeff Thorn and Leonard Thorn.
    He is survived by his sisters-in law, Mary Thorn of Alabama and Glendon Thorn of Estill Springs, Tenn., and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral services were Oct. 28 at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville with Rev. Larry Sanders officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Russellville with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

    James B. "Buck" Williams

    James. B. "Buck" Williams, 84, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at his home in East Prairie, Mo. He was born Aug. 28, 1924 in Belgreen to Dudley and Jennie LeMay Williams. He was a machinist and member of James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
    Funeral services were Oct. 27 at James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Eugene Digby officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jimmy Wayne Williams and Daniel Dwayne Williams; his first wife, Ament Lewey Williams; and three brothers and sisters.
    He is survived by his wife, Betty Moore Jackson Williams of East Prairie, Mo.; daughters, Charlotte Heuszel (Bruce) of Kearney, Mo., and Judy Carol Williams of the Dempsey, Ala. community; step-son, Robert Jackson of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; step-daughters, Patricia Redfering and Teresa Lyons, both of East Prairie, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Pallbearers were Michael Jensen, Randy Jensen, Drew Williams, John Williams, Tommy Jones and Johnny Jones.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

    Bearl DeFoor, 52, of Vina, Ala., passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
    He was born Jan. 10, 1956 to John Bearl and Clara Strickland DeFoor. He was a factory worker for 25 years and was an employee of Tiffin Motor Homes. He was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church. His grandchildren, Shelton and Landry, were the loves of his life, and Paw-Paw Bearl will be missed.
    Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church in Vina.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery.
    He is survived by his wife, Pam Shewbart DeFoor of Vina; daughter, Natalie Barker and husband Kevin of Red Bay; son, Lance Rozelle of Vina; mother, Clara DeFoor of Phil Campbell; sister, Brenda Stovall and husband Ronnie McCullough of Russellville; brothers, Steve DeFoor and wife Alice of Russellville and David DeFoor and wife Roxann of Moulton; grandchildren, Shelton Rozelle, Landry Barker and baby boy Barker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his father, John Bearl DeFoor.
    Pallbearers will be Bert LIser, Jerry Wayne Lawler, Wade Humphres, Josh DeFoor, Jeff DeFoor and Gary Williams.

    Eupal Pauline Holley Hall, 87, of Golden, Miss., passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at NMMC in Tupelo, Miss.
    She was born Feb. 25, 1921 in Itawamba County, Miss., to Johnny and Freddie Lentz Holley. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was a very special mother and grandmother who loved her family and church family and working with her flowers and garden. She was the former owner of Red Bay Florist and was a very active member of the North 25 Homemakers Club until her health prevented her participation.
    Funeral services were Oct. 27 at Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Bob O'Neal and Bro. Donald Graham officiating. Burial was in Belmont Memory Gardens.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dayton Hall; son, Eddie Hall; and brothers, Truman Holley and Roy Holley.
    She is survived by her daughter, Glyndel Wood and husband Oneal of Golden, Miss.; son, Jimmy Hall and wife Carla of Dennis, Miss.; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hall of Belmont, Miss.; grandchildren, Tammy McDowell and husband James, Jennifer Wingo and husband Myron, Laurinda Sparks and husband Shane, Tracy Chambers and husband Daryl, Melissa Ewing and husband Jimmy and Jeffery Wood and wife Ingrid; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Crouch of Fulton, Miss.; brothers, Hollis Holley and wife Sue of Decatur and Hoyt Holley and wife Shara of Fulton, Miss.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Pallbearers were Gilbert Holley, Wade Wood, Donnie Holley, Ronald Holley, Bobby Cleveland and Rickey Holland.

    Julia Bess Wilson, 55, of Haleyville, Ala., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008. Funeral services were at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Bro. Ron Horton officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville.
    She is survived by her husband, Steve Wilson; children, Jeremy Wilson and Justin Wilson; brothers, Jonathan Morris and Lonnie Morris; and grandchildren, Ty Wilson, Palmer Wilson, Maddie Wilson and Kate Wilson.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, L.G. and Merle Morris and brother, Tim Morris.

    Joshua Evan Landers of Phil Campbell, Ala., was born Sept. 1, 2008 and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at the age of 1 month, 21 days.
    Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Phil Campbell with Keith Prince officiating. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Adam Turner, John David Stanford, Joseph Hood and Waid Burcham.
    He is survived by his parents, Lionel and Sonya Landers of Phil Campbell; brother, Jacob Eli Landers; grandparents, David Tidwell and Larry and Carol Landers; uncles, Byron Landers and Gaylon (Kristy) Tidwell; and special friend, Patti Lumpkin.

    Betty Mae Stanfield, 71, of Vina, Ala., passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at her family's residence. She was a native of Franklin County and a longtime resident of the Atwood community. She was retired after 30 years a seamstress. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
    Funeral services were Oct. 23 at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay with Bro. Billy Credille officiating. Burial was in Joel Cemetery in Dennis, Miss.
    She is survived by her sister, Faye Gassaway of Vina; sister-in-law, Ann Crum of Franklinton, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Stanfield; children, Hildred Jefferies, Wanda Jefferies, Earl Jefferies and Bobby Jefferies; and brother, James Crum.
    Pallbearers were Kenneth R. Musser, Brandon J. Bohannon, Lance Spencer, Glen Gassaway, Danny Gassaway and David Gassaway. The honorary pallbearer was Ronald Gassaway.
