PC rally falls short at WCA

By Staff
PHIL CAMPBELL – The Phil Campbell football team failed to win a region game for the second year in a row as the Bobcats' late rally came up short against Westminster Christian Academy 27-14 Friday.
WCA (3-6, 1-6) led 21-0 in the fourth quarter before Jordan Benford completed an 18-yard pass to Pablo Santiago with 6:35 remaining in the game. Adam Mitchell's point after kick was good.
Four minutes later Benford found the end zone on a 9-yard run and Mitchell's kick was good as the Bobcats cut the deficit to seven points.
WCA put the game away on a 65-yard run with 1:35 remaining.
Daniel Bryant led the Bobcats ground attack with 30 yards on 10 carries. Benford was 8-of-20 passing for 146 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
Matt Waid and Santiago caught three passes each. Waid had 70 receiving yards while Santiago had 44 yards.
Seth Brown led the defense – which was able to hold WCA's star quarterback to only 177 passing yards – with nine tackles and a sack. Zach Patrick recorded six tackles.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in region play.
Phil Campbell will host Hackleburg in its final game of the season Friday.
