Tigers' Newell is Player of the Week

RED BAY – Coming off a tough loss to Belmont, the Red Bay football team needed a win over Phil Campbell to keep pace with Tanner for the Class 2A, Region 8 title.
After the Tigers fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter, Andre Newell made a play that changed the game and helped lead Red Bay to a 27-11 victory over the Bobcats to remain undefeated in region play.
When the Bobcats kicked off following their field goal, Newell took the ball up the field.
With a few good blocks from his teammates, Newell found running room and returned the kick 80 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.
Newell, who is listed as a wide receiver and a defensive back, added another score in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run to increase the Red Bay lead to 27-3.
He finished the night with five carries for 28 yards.
