COURTLAND – R.A. Hubbard took a step towards the playoffs Friday while dealing quite a blow to Vina's season in a 31-6 victory over the Red Devils.
Hubbard jumped out to 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 4-yard run. The Chiefs (3-1, 3-1) added to the lead in the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown run, a 6-yard scoring run and a 40-yard touchdown run to pull ahead 24-0.
Vina (1-3, 1-3) avoided the shutout when Cass White hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brent Townsend with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter.
The Chiefs answered later in the third on an 8-yard run to pull ahead 31-6.
The Red Devils had some success moving the ball, and Vina got in good scoring position a few times. The Red Devils reached the Hubbard 1-yard line twice, but could not score.
Townsend recovered a Chief fumble then led the Red Devils deep into R.A. Hubbard territory before the drive stalled.
Cody Poores also had a fumble recovery for Vina.
Townsend completed nine of 48 pass attempts for 169 yards and a touchdown.
Morgan McCarley pulled in four passes for 52 yards while White caught had four receptions for 61 yards and the touchdown. Aaron Gray had two catches for 56 yards.
