Softball tourney to benefit Relay for Life

By Staff
EAST FRANKLIN – The East Franklin Community will host a softball tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life next week.
Tournament proceeds will go toward the Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church Relay Team for the 2009 Relay for Life, which will be held May 1.
"We are trying to get different ideas for fundraisers and hopefully a jumpstart on this year's Relay," Carol Hall, tournament organizer, said.
The tournament will be a two-day event on Sept. 26-27. The tournament is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and players will return at 8 a.m. Saturday to complete the tournament.
The entry fees is $125 per team.
"Teams are co-ed and we require there be an equal number of men and women on each team," Hall said. "Teams are forming now for this tournament."
Hall said the last day to register will be Sept. 24. Teams interested in participating can register by calling 205-993-8982 or 205-993-4279.
This is the third year Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church has participated in the Relay for Life. Last year, the team raised $2,500 for the ACS.
