    Joseph Wayne Tompkins, 20, of Phil Campbell died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. He lived his entire life in Franklin County.
    The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Jerome Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery.
    He is survived by his mom and dad, Johnny and Polly Tompkins; sisters and brothers, Hannah Seal, Johnathon, Kyle, Deven, Mandy, Jesse, Codie, Noah and Dennis, all of Phil Campbell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Connie Tompkins, and grandfather, P. J. Tompkins.
    Pallbearers will be Cody Williams, Jerry Saint, Kyle Kimbrough, Steven Tompkins, Will Seal and Chris Tompkins. The honorary pallbearer will be John Huey.

    Winnell Hester, 77, of Phil Campbell passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Russellville Hospital.
    The graveside funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Knights of Pythias Cemetery with Bro. Jim Poss officiating. Interment will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Hester; parents, William and Annie Lee Whitfield Carter; brother, James Carter; and sister, Ellen Stull.
    She is survived by her son, Hugh Hester of Meden, La.; daughters, Glenda and James Vandiver of Russellville; Annette and Jack Lee of Phil Campbell; sister, Elaine and Orvil Harris of Phil Campbell; three grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.

    John L. Scott

    John L. Scott, 63, of Memphis, Tenn. and formerly of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008.
    His memorial will be announced later by his family.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie Winston Sr. and Julie Mae Gibson Scott, and sister, Julia Ann Scott.
    He is survived by his children, Sheena, Kevin and Kaitlin Scott; brothers, Elsie Winston Scott Jr., James Calvin Scott, Travis Robert Scott, David Harold Scott, Raymond Earl Scott; sisters, Frances Howard and Martha Carter; one grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    Mr. Dewey O'neal Hill, 76, of Phil Campbell passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 in Burleson, Tenn. He was born in Russellville on July 5, 1932. He was a Korean War veteran.
    The visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville. The 2 p.m. funeral service will be Sunday, Sept. 14 in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Mark Daniel officiating. Interment will be in Old Line Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Josh Watson, Dustin Lawler, Johnny Gentle, Jerry Welborn, Keith Lawler and Rodney Anglin.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Williams Hill; parents, Ed and Bell Estes Hill; brothers, Alvin, R.C. and Bud Hill; sisters, Downey Welborn and Alton Elrod.
    She is survived by her sons, Tony and Tammy Hill, and Tom Haithcock; siblings, Verda Lawler, Ruby Nell Cochran, Lucille McCarley and Madie Stancil; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    The family expresses their appreciation to Baptist Trinity Hospice, Bro. Cressey and Tammy for her love and care.

    Katherine Anita Elkins

    Katherine Anita Elkins, 79, of Haleyville passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Haleyville Health Care. She was a Church of Christ and worked for several years as an accountant, an Alaskan Pipeline employee and a Wal-Mart greeter.
    Her lifetime love for animals led her to rescue many four-footed creatures from starvation or neglect. She had worked with Girl Scouts and even had been a swim instructor for local youth.
    She was the daughter of the late M.F. "John" and Reba Elkins.
    The visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Andy Kizer officiating. Burial will be in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Win-Mar Humane Society, P.O. Box 357, Haleyville, AL 35565.

    Henrietta Hatley
    September 6, 2008
    Mrs. Henrietta "Tiny" Rosemary Seifrig Hatley, 81, of Phil Campbell passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. She was born in St. Mimner, Ind., on Sept. 10, 1926 to Phillip Seifrig and Florence Cassidy Seifrig.
    The visitation was held Sept. 7 at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral services were held Sept. 10 at Bocken Funeral Home in Hammond, Ind., with Rev. Gilbert Barnett officiating. Interment was in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schereville, Ind.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Hatley; daughter, Darlene Sue Goatley; son, Carl Leroy Crouch; grandson, Jason Aron Crouch; parents, Phillip and Florence Seifrig; brothers, Henry, Martin, John, Jake, Ed, Robert and Albert Seifrig; and sisters, Gertrude Holman, Elizabeth Trettera and Evelyn Seifrig.
    She is survived by her children, Ronnie and Sandy Crouch, Robert and Bernie Seifrig, Shirley and Otis Sterling, Allen and Barb Crouch and Marilyn Crouch; sister, Francis and Harley Pyles; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    The family thanks Russellville Health Care, Russellville Hospital Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Kelley, Dr. Anastacio, Dr. Santos, Theresa and all nurses and staff.

    R. Gail "Gailburg" Yates, 41, of Phil Campbell passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2008. She was born in Columbus, Ind., on July 25, 1967 to Mack Thompson and Bobbie Sue Cobb Thompson.
    Funeral services were held Sept. 10 at Hillcrest Cemetery in North Vernon, Ind.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Yates; father, Mack Arthur Thompson; and grandparents, Clinton Thompson, Adele Mayfield and Larcus and Louise Cobb.
    She is survived by her daughter, Harley Shan Yates; son, Cody Allen Nay; stepson, Joshua Lee Yates; mother, Bobbie Thompson; brother, Mark Thompson Jr.; sister, Alina Burton; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
