Community steps up for D.A.R.E. program

By Staff
Franklin County residents have rallied together to make sure the county has a Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in its schools next year.
Facing tough times finding the money for the program, the sheriff's office has been aided by donations from around the county.
Most recently, the Vina Youth League came together to raise $1,000 for the D.A.R.E. program.
Sheriff Larry Plott said it will be a year to year decision on whether or not the program can continue, but said there will be one for the 2008-2009 school year.
Community members from all parts of the county have chipped in to make that possible, as well as several businesses and District Attorney Joey Rushing.
We are pleased to hear that the program will continue to serve the schools in our county.
We are even more pleased to hear what can happen when people come together for one cause.
