Contest a boost for chamber, good for all

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce wrapped up a promotional contest late last week that will benefit the organization, but will also serve as an attraction for tourists coming to the county.
Photos of children from throughout the county were submitted to the chamber and ran in local newpapers, including the Franklin County Times.
Votes were then submitted at a quarter per vote with the top boy and girl vote getter being placed on billboards throughout the area promoting the annual Watermelon Festival.
Hunter and Carley Briles, a brother and sister from Russellville, both received 5,100 votes to become the winners.
There were 49 participants in the contest with many of them also receiving a high number of votes.
The money raised will allow the chamber to promote the county in a positive way as they prepare for the festival, which annually draws tens of thousands of people to the area.
The community support for such a contest shows the desire in our community to show off our children and our county.
