Lady Tigers defeat Mars Hill
The Red Bay varsity girls softball team beat Mars Hill 7-2 Thursday as the Class 2A, Area 16 champion Lady Tigers capped an undefeated season in area play. Whitney Sharp pitched a one-hitter for Red Bay with seven strikeouts, and also went 3-for-4 at the plate. Ashley Frame also had three hits in four plate appearances, and Ashley Hardin went 2-for-4.
Red Bay tennis improves to 8-2
The Red Bay varsity boys tennis team recently earned wins over Lexington, Belmont (Miss.) and Mars Hill to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in section play this season.
Wesley Jarnigan, Matt Young, Toby Gray and Kirk Armstrong each won singles matches in an 8-1 win against Lexington April 8, and the Tigers swept all three doubles matches. Red Bay beat Belmont 4-1 Monday as Jarnigan and Gray-Armstrong won for the boys, while Paige Palmer earned a singles victory and Palmer-Caitlin Childers won doubles for the girls. Red Bay downed Mars Hill 8-1 Tuesday as Jarnigan, Young, Gray, John Thigpen, Chris Funderburg, Armstrong won singles matches and the Tigers won 2-of-3 doubles.
