Golden Tigers edge Trojans
The No. 8 Russellville varsity baseball team remained undefeated in Class 5A, Area 16 play with a 7-5 victory over Muscle Shoals Monday.
Russellville, which has already clinched the area championship for the second straight season, trailed 3-2 after four innings but pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fifth as senior catcher Torey Baird hit a two-run single and sophomore righthander Jake Ward earned his sixth victory on the mound.
Baird went 3-for-3 with three RBIS, while Corey Flanagan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and John Batchelor added two hits for the Golden Tigers (26-9, 5-0).
Red Bay tennis splits Lions
HALEYVILLE – The Red Bay varsity boys tennis team won a 6-3 decision against 4A Haleyville Monday, while the varsity girls lost 9-0.
Matthew Young, Toby Gray, John Thigpen, Chris Funderburk and Kirk Armstrong all won boys singles matches, and Gray-Armstrong picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles for the Tigers (5-2).

Belgreen softball sweeps Vina
VINA – The Belgreen varsity softball team swept Vina Monday as Loren McVicker and Deborah Billingham each pitched shutouts.
In the first game, McVicker (5-3) had three hits and drove in five runs while striking out five to beat the Lady Red Devils 11-0. In the nightcap, Billingham (6-2) had three hits and a RBI while recording nine strikeouts in an 8-0 win.
Run for Ronald 5K benefit run/walk
April 12
FLORENCE – Alpha Delta Pi will hold the fourth annual Run for Ronald 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run Saturday, April 12 at the University of North Alabama walking track next to Flowers Hall to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The 5K will start at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile will begin at 9:15 a.m. or as soon as the 5K is completed. The course is a certified USATF track and online registration is available at www.active.com. The pre-registration cost for the 5K is $10 and the 1-mile is $7. Race day registration is $20 (5K) and $10 (1-mile). For more information, email Ashley at TVAAadpi@hotmail.com.
PC meet &greet
April 15
PHIL CAMPBELL – Phil Campbell High School will host a meet and greet for new varsitiy football coach Michael Parker and junior high coach Ryan Swinney Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the lunchroom. A meal for all football players and cheerleaders will be provided. Plates will cost $5, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Tennis fundraiser
April 19
Hospice of North Alabama will sponsor a women's tennis tournament fundraiser Saturday, April 19 at 9 a.m. The round-robin tournament will be held at the Russellville City tennis courts with proceeds going to American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. First and second-place prizes will be awarded, and pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per person, and please come early to finish registration. City T-ball league registration
April 19
The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department will hold T-ball registration from March 29-April 19 for ages 6-7 years old. Registration is $35 per player or $65 for two players, and the age control date is May 1. Late registration will be April 21-May 3 and includes a $5 late fee. The jamboree will be held Saturday, May 17. For more information, call 332-8770.
Regional BASS tournament
May 22-23
DECATUR – The BASS Club World Championship (BCWC) Regional Tournament is set for Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23 in Decatur.
