PHIL CAMPBELL – Shaela Pace drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Phil Campbell varsity softball team came back to beat Mars Hill 4-3 Monday.
Phil Campbell (10-9, 4-2) trailed Mars Hill (8-7, 2-2) by two runs in the sixth inning but the Lady Bobcats pushed across two runs to tie it at 3-3.
Kim Clark, who struck out five and scattered five hits, got the first two Lady Panthers to pop up in the top of the seventh. Valerie Nash hit a double but Clark fanned Emily Burns to give Phil Campbell a chance to prevent extra innings.
After the first two batters failed to reach base, Tiffany Miller, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, blooped a single off the second baseman's glove and Alexis Maggerise singled to put runners at first and second. Pace, who went 2-for-4, singled home Miller, whose slide beat the throw home.
