Thursday Update: Local Republican candidate field thin

By Staff
Jason Cannon
The deadline to qualify for local elections is quickly approaching and unless a flood of paperwork comes in by the deadline tomorrow afternoon, the county's Republican Party may field only one candidate.
Jerry Fancher, Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Executive Committee, said Scotty Raper, a candidate for county commission district 4, is the only GOP candidate to file his paperwork with the office.
"We've got a lot of people who haven't turned their paperwork in and a lot of people who have expressed interest but it's just not come back yet," he said.
Fancher said he expected paperwork from Jack Harris, a potential candidate for county commission district 1 before Friday's deadline.
"We've has people inquire about every commission seat, the school board and one for revenue commissioner," he said. "The only one no one's asked about is superintendent of education. People thinks that's going to be a trying four years."
