Locals to compete in FLW tourney
JASPER – The Wal-Mart FLW Tour will stop on Lewis Smith Lake today for a four-day tournament the features 400 anglers from 37 states, Italy, Japan, Spain and Australia.
Rick Sharp of Waterloo, Jonathan Edwards of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., who operates the Quick-Mart stores in the Shoals, and Ashley Stanford of Franklin County will compete in the tournament against anlers from throughout the Southeast and one from South Africa.
Among the anglers competing in the pro division is Clay Dyer, of Hamilton. Ty Hester, of Russellville, will compete in the co-angler division.
Co-anglers fish the back of a boat piloted by a pro-angler. The top angler from each state will advance to the BASS Federal Nation national championship in Kansas in November. The top angler from each region at the championship will advance to the Bassmaster Classic in February.
Take off is at 7 a.m. each day at Lewis Smith Dam of Alabama 69 north of Jasper. The weigh-ins Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 begin at 3 p.m. at the dam. Weigh-ins on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 are at 4 p.m. at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Admission is free for the event.
City T-ball league registration
March 29-April 19
The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department will hold T-ball registration from March 29-April 19 for ages 6-7 years old.
Registration is $35 per player or $65 for two players, and the age control date is May 1. Late registration will be April 21-May 3 and includes a $5 late fee. The jamboree will be held Saturday, May 17. For more information, contact the department at 332-8770.
Run for Ronald 5K benefit run/walk
April 12
FLORENCE -Alpha Delta Pi will hold the fourth annual Run for Ronald 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run Saturday, April 12 at the University of North Alabama walking track next to Flowers Hall to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
The 5K will start at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile will begin at 9:15 a.m. or as soon as the 5K is completed. The course is a certified USATF track and online registration is available at www.active.com. The pre-registration cost for the 5K is $10 and the 1-mile is $7. Race day registration is $20 (5K) and $10 (1-mile). For more information, email Ashley at TVAAadpi@hotmail.com.
Regional BASS tournament
May 22-23
DECATUR – The Decatur/Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce Ingalls Harbor has been chosen for the BASS Club World Championship (BCWC) Regional Tournament, a qualifier for the World Championship. The regional tournament is set for Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23.
