Break the cycle

By Staff
The world is full of unscrupulous people who make a living by bilking innocent, unsuspecting regular folks.
These people take advantage of the good nature in people by exploiting their hope and needs.
The latest wave of this behavior has already landed in Franklin County as a check fraud. Unsuspecting people are mailed a check for several thousand dollars and asked to mail back a few thousand as payment for processing or taxes. Some times, the people even offer to send more money in return. It will take a few days, but that check that appeared from nowhere will bounce and you'll be left without ever how much you sent back. It's gone forever. It's virtually an endless cycle that will only stop when your money runs out.
Unfortunately, these scams originate from across national borders and overseas, where U.S. law enforcement has no jurisdiction. It's important for each of us to realize that get rich quick schemes most often do not pan out, and as Sheriff Larry Plott noted, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
