Seven Russellville Middle School students were arrested Monday after being found in possession of prescription medications on school property.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said the juveniles were brought to the station, booked and released into the custody of their parents Monday afternoon.
"The school resource officer called us when the students were found to be in possession of pills," Hargett said.
The juveniles have been charged with possession of prescription medications and conspiracy to possess prescription medications. One student was also charged with practicing pharmacy without a license, Hargett said.
Hargett said none of the medication was classified as a controlled substance, but they were prescription medication for someone other that the students.
Hargett said the youths, whose names were not made available due to their age, range in ages from 13 to 15 years.
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said that his office takes incidents involving drugs on the campus of our schools very seriously.
"Whenever there are drugs found on the premises of our schools, our office takes those charges very seriously," Rushing said.
RMS Principal Frankie Hammock said that the school will be using the board policy in disciplining the students, but said it has been quite some time since an incident such as this has occurred at the school.
"This is the first time something like this has happened in the last six or seven years," Hammock said. "We are going to have it happen on occasion. All schools do."
Court officials said the teens are scheduled to go before District Judge Paula McDowell on April 15.
